Background info
It’s Colombia season all year round. And we have the pleasure of showcasing a coffee we hold very close to our hearts. El Puente was one of the first lots we ever brought into Cedar, helping kick off the journey we’re still on today. So being able to bring it back year after year feels pretty wholesome. Somehow, it just seems to get better every time.
El Puente; meaning bridge takes its name from the footbridge crossing the river near the El Puente processing facility in Palestina, southern Huila. The facility works with coffee from more than 100 smallholder families in the surrounding area, allowing producers to process and deliver their coffee at a scale that wouldn’t be possible on their individual farms.
Once the cherries arrive, they’re floated to remove impurities and then assessed for Brix levels. Coffees with lower Brix are fermented in sacks for 12–24 hours before drying, while cherries with good Brix levels head straight to the drying stage.
This coffee has always been a bomb of flavour. In the cup, we’re getting loads of tropical fruit watermelon and cantaloupe are the first things that jump out. On espresso, those juicy fruit notes carry through, with dark plum adding a deeper layer. On milk think strawberry whirls, sweet, fruity and ridiculously easy to drink.
